Ofarnyi Kwegya
Ofarnyi Kwegya, the giant who traveled from ancient Egypt to Ghana, now stands immortalized by a statue in Moree, Central Region. Ofarnyi Kwegya was a member of Asebu Amanfi’s group that arrived in what is now Asebu. Both were giants, with Asebu Amanfi founding the town of Asebu and Ofarnyi Kwegya, a legendary fisherman, choosing to settle on the coast due to the plentiful stingrays, which inspired the name Moree. Renowned as the greatest fisherman in Ghana’s history, his immense size and unparalleled skill allowed him to catch vast quantities of fish, leading him to explore and settle in various coastal areas, including Moree and Winneba.
